Server Level-2 Engineer (Windows & Linux)
Primary Objective
Provide advanced operational support, troubleshooting, administration, and maintenance of Windows and Linux server environments while serving as the escalation point for Level-1 support teams.
Incident Management
Investigate and resolve escalated server incidents, perform root cause analysis, restore services, and coordinate with engineering or vendor teams when required.
Windows Server Administration
Administer and support Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, Windows patching, and server troubleshooting.
Linux Administration
Support Linux server environments including OS troubleshooting, filesystem management, LVM administration, NFS/CIFS mounts, SELinux, PAM, and LDAP integration.
Identity & Access Management
Manage Active Directory, Azure AD, Azure AD Connect synchronization, user/group administration, authentication services, and access controls.
Endpoint & Systems Management
Support MECM/SCCM, Intune, software deployment, patch management, compliance monitoring, and endpoint configuration issues.
Virtualization Support
Monitor and support VMware infrastructure, virtual machine provisioning, performance troubleshooting, and guest OS administration.
Performance & Capacity Management
Monitor server performance, storage utilization, system health, and proactively address capacity or stability issues.
Automation & Scripting
Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, or similar tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
Change Management
Execute approved server changes, OS upgrades, patch deployments, maintenance activities, and configuration changes following standard change procedures.
Backup & Recovery Support
Support backup monitoring, restore activities, disaster recovery validation, and coordination with infrastructure teams during recovery efforts.
Documentation
Maintain server documentation, runbooks, SOPs, knowledge articles, configuration records, and operational procedures.
Vendor Coordination
Coordinate with Microsoft, Red Hat, VMware, and other technology vendors for advanced troubleshooting and resolution. (Vendor engagement model is consistent with L2 operational practices described in the SmartOps scope.)
Collaboration
Work closely with Service Desk, Network, Security, Storage, and Engineering teams to ensure service stability and operational excellence.

Active Directory, Azure AD, MECM/SCCM, Intune, VMware vSphere, ServiceNow, Windows Server, Linux Server, Monitoring Platforms, PowerShell, Bash.
Required Experience
5–8+ years of experience supporting enterprise Windows and Linux server environments.
Technical Skills
Windows Server Administration, Linux Administration, Active Directory, Azure AD, VMware, MECM/SCCM, Intune, PowerShell, Bash, Patching, Monitoring, Troubleshooting.
Preferred Certifications
Microsoft Certified (Windows Server/Azure), RHCSA/RHCE, VMware VCP, ITIL Foundation.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline.
